Developed in conjunction with the Los Angeles Unified School District and the City of Los Angeles, Docs Rock is a two-semester program that introduces high school students to the world of documentary filmmaking.

This unique program engages students in their educational studies, exposes them to the art form of documentary filmmaking, and prepares them for college and employment, by developing critical life skills, such as: analytical, oral and communication, team building, time management, leadership and organizational.

The first semester focuses on critical viewing and analyses of nonfiction films, and during the second semester the students apply their new knowledge and produce their very own documentary. The 40-week program ends with both a critique by distinguished filmmakers of the kids' works as well as a Docs Rock Film Festival. As a credit to the program's success, many past Docs Rock participants have been accepted to universities and colleges, and are professional filmmakers or employed in the entertainment industry.

Student Quotes:

"Docs Rock has taught me to believe in myself again.  It has brought out, if not created, talents and abilities I was not even aware of before.  I never thought I could enjoy leading a group, organizing different tasks, developing a project, and working with such uniquely diverse people.  I don't recall ever feeling so proud of myself." -Stephanie

"The class was fascinating and changed my outlook on life." -Natalie

"Docs Rock is a very unique, hands-on class that not only lets you create a documentary film, but also teaches you life lessons that will remain forever." -Christian
