I Know IDA Does Not Offer Funding Itself, But Can It Help Me Find Some Other Sources? There are numerous listings of agencies, foundations, and government offices in the Survival Guide and Membership Directory , which may be of great use to the fundraising documentarian; but the IDA does not presently offer professional researching services of any kind, including funding research assistance.

What Kind Of Grants And Funding Does IDA Offer? While IDA does not itself provide funding or grants (with the exception of the Kodak Project Access product grant, which members of our Fiscal Sponsorship Program may apply for), we do have a Fiscal Sponsorship Program, which can be very useful in the pursuit of funding of various kinds. Such information about funding-- including resources such as foundations, programs, and opportunities in documentary work-- as we do provide is listed in our magazine, Documentary, or will be found in the Survival Guide and Membership Directory . Plus, IDA also offers several transcripts and audiotapes of seminars, which discuss the processes of fundraising, budgeting, and grant seeking.

Does IDA Have A Library Or Archive I Can Use? There is an IDA Archive at the Film Archive of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, Hollywood. The Archive is open to the public by appointment: appointments can be scheduled, and additional information about the Archive can be obtained, by calling Snowden Becker at 310/247-3016 x. 387 - sbecker@oscars.org. The IDA offices themselves do not have on-site research or reference libraries. When looking for archives and film reference resources, also try the various university archives: there are excellent archives at USC, UCLA, NYU, and Columbia, among other universities. Also, many important documentary films can be found in the collection of the Motion Picture Division of the Library of Congress.

I Am Looking For A Copy Of A Certain Documentary, And Am Trying To Locate The Filmmaker: Can IDA Help Me Find Either? Unfortunately, due to the fact that there are simply too many filmmakers making too many documentaries for anyone to keep track of, the IDA does not follow or keep listings of documentaries or filmmakers. However, our biennial Survival Guide and Membership Directory, which is available for purchase to both members and nonmembers through the publications order form does list a number of archives and distributors which may be able to provide assistance locating specific documentary films. If a specific documentarian is an IDA member, you can find their contact information in the Survival Guide and Membership Directory. Also, the IDA-sponsored International Documentary Sourcebook, published by Broadcast Information Bureau (BiB) Publishing (http://www.bibnet.com, tel: 215/238-5300, fax: 215/238-5317) contains distribution and contact information for a fairly large number of documentary films and production companies.

I Could Use Advice About Making And Selling My Film. Can IDA Help? IDA generally tries to offer one or two series of seminars and/or workshops every year designed to assist documentarians with such issues, and we also offer transcripts and audiotapes of such seminars and workshops for sale. However, we do not presently provide career counseling or training programs per se. Of course, IDA members are always free to contact other IDA members for advice: that kind of community is what IDA is designed to foster.
