'Birth Story: Ina May Gaskin and the Farm Midwives'
Event Type:  Premiere
04/30/2013

Following a theatrical release in over 20 cities, the award-winning, independent documentary film Birth Story, about legendary midwife Ina May Gaskin, will be released on April 30 on DVD, iTunes, and streaming & download via the filmmakers' own website. Birth Story is among the first films making their digital premieres as part of a new collaboration between Sundance Institute's Artist Services and partner organizations The Bertha Foundation, BRITDOC, Cinereach, Film Independent, Independent Filmmaker Project and the San Francisco Film Society. Pregnant women and parents, natural birth advocates, birth professionals and anyone who has been born will be inspired!

Birth Story, directed by IDA member Sara Lamm and Mary Wigmore and edited by IDA member Kate Amend, captures a spirited group of women who taught themselves how to deliver babies on a 1970s hippie commune, rescued modern midwifery from extinction, and changed the way a generation thought about childbirth. Today, as 1/3 of all US babies are born via C-section, The Farm has a rate below two percent. The film not only captures the unique sisterhood at The Farm Clinic, it also shows childbirth the way most people have never seen it—unadorned, unabashed and awe-inspiring.
