Calendar – Past Event

The Gotham Independent Film Awards, selected by distinguished juries and presented in New York City, the home of independent film, are the first honors of the film awards season. This public showcase, presented and produced by the Independent Feature Project (IFP honors the filmmaking community, expands the audience for independent films, and supports the work that IFP does behind the scenes throughout the year to bring such films to fruition.

For the Best Documentary category-Criteria: an exceptionally realized nonfiction film that deals creatively with cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other subject matter. The objective is to recognize the significant artistic and/or social impact of the director's vision  It may be photographed in actual occurrence, or may employ partial re-enactment, stock footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques, as long as the emphasis is on fact and not fiction. The Gotham Independent Film Award^TM will be presented to the film's credited director(s) and producer(s).
