"The Promise of Tomorrow 1940-1960" is a universal story of the American experience as seen through the eyes of first generation Greek-Americans. This documentary is part 2 of the award winning series: The Greeks of Southern California-Through the Century. Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis returns to host and narrate. The documentary highlights courageous stories from those who served bravely in the military and in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) during wartime. You'll also hear heartwarming and often hilarious stories about being raised Greek at home while struggling to be American outside the home. Balancing this duality will strike a familiar cord from those of different backgrounds who also endured assimilation. The Greek Americans became Americans, yet maintained their heritage, language, and culture, which shaped their attitudes, self worth, and drive for endless opportunities of success.
