Southwest Art Car Caravan & Film Tour

Harrod Blank will be touring with his new film "Automorphosis" by actually driving from venue to venue in his Camera Van (van covered with 2,750 cameras)  In addition, he will be joined by a caravan of 10-20 art cars making this a unique combination of art & film in an experiment to find a new way in independent film distribution.

Automorphosis," winner of Best Documentary in the 2009 Royal Flush Festival NY, Orlando International Film Festival, Macon International Film Festival and others, is a 77 minute tribute to art cars & explores the psychology of the artist and what inspires creation. 13 years in the making, and shot on super 16mm, this film is feast for the eyes and features over 100 art cars including such fantastic vehicles as the "Telephone Car," the "Hamburger Harley," and the "Carthedral," a Gaudi-inspired Cathedral on wheels.  

SEPT. 30TH - OCT 6TH
The tour will begin a week run in Los Angeles at the Downtown Independent Theatre on Sept. 30th.  (Showtimes are Sept 30 @ 4 pm, Oct 1 @ 3 pm, Oct 2 @ 4 & 6 pm, Oct 3 @ 5 pm, Oct 4 @ 7:30 pm, Oct 5 @ 5 pm, Oct 6 @ 9pm)  There will be an art car exhibit on the 30th.  Harrod Blank will appear in person Sept 30-Oct 4th (except Saturday).

OCT. 2 & 3, the film will play an 11:00 a.m. matinee with an art car exhibit outside the Laemmle's Monica 4 Plex in Santa Monica. 

OCT. 2nd, the film will be screened along with an art car exhibit at the Santa Ana Artwalk from 6 pm to 11 pm in downtown Santa Ana CA.

Oct 5TH
there will be the largest art car exhibit of the tour at the prestigious Petersen Automotive Museum followed by the film screening at 7:30 pm.   This event is being co-presented by the Craft & Folk Art Museum in Los Angeles. 

Oct 6TH

OCT 7TH will be the showing of the film after dark at one of the greatest contemporary visionary art environments, Salvation Mountain on the outskirts of Niland CA. Following the film the caravan will stop and camp at the adjacent East Jesus visionary art environment.

OCT 8TH The caravan will move across to Yuma AZ for a whistle stop appearance in downtown Yuma at Tomkins Pottery (78 W 2nd St. Yuma, AZ 85364) starting at 10:00 a.m. for an hour. Then the caravan moves over to Tucson AZ for an appearance and showing of the film at The Screening Room followed by a reception for the art car artists 10:00 - 1:00 am at the Candelabra Gallery (412 E. OCT 9th The art cars will be exhibited at Second Saturdays in downtown Tucson from 5:30 pm - midnight and the film will play again at 7 & 9 pm at The Screening Room.

Oct. 10th An Art Car Event at the Central School Project in Bisbee AZ starting at 5:30 pm with live music featuring Pat Panther, G-String Theory, & the popular band from Tucson, The Mission Creeps followed by film screening at 9 pm with Q & A to follow.

OCT 11TH The close of the SW Art Car Caravan & Film Tour with Douglas Art Car Day for an afternoon exhibit in front of the historic Hotel Gadsden beginning at 1 pm followed by the film screening in the lobby at 7:30 pm. Many cars from the nearby Art Car World Museum will be on display in downtown Douglas AZ.
