Stranger Than Fiction Summer Season Closing Night: 'Dixie Chicks: Shut Up & Sing'
Event Type:  Screening
08/09/2011 @ 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm
New York, NY

A gala presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival and winner of Best Documentary honors at over half a dozen other film festivals (including the Chicago International Film Festival and Woodstock Film Festival), The New York Times calls Shut Up & Sing a "revealing case study of the relationship between politics, celebrity and the media in today's polarized social climate."

Two-time Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Barbara Kopple and Cecelia Peck chronicle the lives of the Dixie Chicks, an extremely successful all-woman Texas-based country music trio, over a three year period of intense public scrutiny, fan backlash, physical threats, and pressure from both corporate and conservative political elements in the United States, after lead singer Natalie Maines publicly criticized then US President George W. Bush during a live concert.

Q&A with Barbara Kopple follows the screening.
