Right on the heels of SXSW, things get busy elsewhere in the Lone Star state with the 2009 AFI DALLAS International Film Festival, held March 26th - April 2nd. The fest has announced the first 15 films on its slate, including three world premiere documentaries.
Justin Wilson's One Nation is a profile of the year 1968, examining the struggles of power vs. protest, affluence vs. poverty, and human rights vs. the tyranny of want and ignorance. Libby Spears’s Playground, which is executive produced by Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney, follows a young woman and other children like her, who are victims of the American child sex trafficking industry. And for a look into the eccentric world of rock n' roll from the p.o.v. of obsessed photographer Robert M. Knight, there's John Chester's Rock Prophecies.
Additional doc screenings will include the U.S. premiere of Robert Kenner’s Food, Inc. and Sundance competition film Art & Copy (Doug Pray).
