I want to announce the release of my film “The Art Of Failure: Chuck Connelly Not For Sale” on DVD. The film is only available on the film’s website www.theartoffailure.com I spent over five years following a brilliant, self-destructive painter whose career had seen better days. As I started filming him his life fell apart even further. His wife left, his patron died, and his gallery dumped him. He had been a raising art star in the 1980’s. But, after burning all his bridges, and alienating everyone in the art world with his drinking, bad behavior, and uncompromising stance for his art, he could not “get arrested”. So he decides to hire a young, nice, friendly, good-looking (unknown actor) to try to sell his paintings. The work is still great, and now “the package” is much better. The actor ends up getting a gallery show in New York, and sells some paintings! This documentary has been successful on the festival circuit (Los Angeles Film Festival, Documenta Madrid, Melbourne Film Festival and others) and it aired on HBO (also BBC, ARTE, ZDF and other networks) but the DVD offers a longer version of the film along with an interesting extra feature of Chuck Connelly attempting to discuss his artwork.
