Special discussion with past Seminar programmers, Monday, May 10, 7:30pm
For the May installment of the Flaherty NYC, The Flaherty will present Elephant Boy by Robert Flaherty and Zoltan Korda. Following the screening, a panel of former Seminar programmers will discuss the legacy of Robert Flaherty's work and the longevity of the Flaherty Seminar and its relevance in today's media landscape. For 56 years the Seminar has been a meeting point for all those interested in the creative process in a diveristy of platforms. Join past programmers Carlos Gutiérrez (2007), Ed Halter (2001), Elaine Charnov (2001), Jytte Jenson (2001), Bill Sloan (1992, 1979, 1975, 1972), and Nadine Covert (1972) as they discuss how the Seminar has evolved over the years and remains a unique space for innovative thinking and discovery.

Elephant Boy (1937)
Based on the story "Toomai of the Elephants," from Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book," Elephant Boy is the tale of Little Toomai, who seeks and wins adulthood and professional stature as an elephant herder by witnessing the secret and sacred nighttime dance of the elephants. A beautiful film for the big screen, Elephant Boy is also a story about the cooptation of myth and history, evoking the paradigms of treachery and colonial sleight of hand.
