The challenge is simple: craft a beautiful piece of work showing the meaning of the word "courage" in its widest form. A child jumping into the swimming pool for the first time; jumping out of an airplane with a parachute; a mountaineer on an ascent... it can be anything that illustrates bravery, however extreme or seemingly insignificant. We are not just doing this for fun but to acknowledge the courage of people who overcome difficulties in their everyday lives. We are asking film-makers to produce a piece of work: 30 seconds to 3 minutes long that will be judged by some of the most talented creatives in the advertising world.
The Jury: Andy Gulliman (Saatchi and Saatchi), Jake Scott (RSA), Olivier Altmann (Publicis), Ringan Ledwidge (Rattling Stick), Stefan Sonnenfeld (Company 3), Sandy Watson Scott (The Fireflies), Kim Gehrig (Academy), Wolf Jaiser (Framepool, 16tracks), Barnesly (The Mill), Piyush Pandey (Ogilvy), Steffen Gentis (BBDO) and others. We have created a global jury who represent many different advertising sectors to judge this first challenge.
The winner will be the first to receive this new annual award and we will make a reel of the top ten films. The films will be shown all around the world and will be viewed by 1,000s of creatives. Framepool is the only footage collection founded and run by filmmakers. Last year Kim Gehrig won a Silver Lion and the Young Directors Award for her film You Are Powerful for Amnesty International using almost 100% Framepool footage plus additional scenes she integrated in the footage sequences. Winning this challenge is a great way to get noticed, discovered or remembered. So make sure you enter!!
We hope this has inspired you and that you are ready for the challenge!!!
The Rules are very simple. The competition can be entered by a single person or a team; you can use as much talent as is needed to make your film - indeed we encourage teamwork!
The entrant MUST use some stock footage to create this spot and Framepool allows to use Framepool footage FREE of charge for the challenge. What we and the judges want to see is just how adaptable you are in this ever-changing commercial world. You can shoot, animate, adapt or add the rest in post production. 20% of the film MUST feature stock footage from the rather excellent library you can view (and download) from www.framepool.com.
To download footage please follow the instructions under JOIN & TAKE PART section of the website: http://www.framepool.com/special/fireflies/join.html
First you have to register and the Competition Team will contact you to send the access code to download footage for your entry.
Please note that all films entered will be used for promotional and educational purposes and shown at events around the world and on websites. So you must have cleared all talent, music and any other rights before entering.
Once we have selected the 10 top films we will allow the entrants access to full res video so they can create a finished article.
The deadline for entries is May 20th 2010 and you must have your film delivered to us by that time on a pal BSP tape (LBBOnline - Little Black Book, 122 Wardour Street, London W1F 0TX) or as a file on a site of your choice (via ftp so we can download).
