ROUGH AUNTIES will debut on HBO2 on May 19th.

Overburdened by rampant crime and disabled by years of apartheid, the criminal justice system of Durban, South Africa frequently overlooks social issue crimes against women and children. Rapists receive absurdly light sentences. Child abusers are released back into society with no punishment, able to terrorize their victims again and again. If the government of Durban won't protect its most vulnerable citizens, who will?

ROUGH AUNTIES introduces us to the Bobbi Bear organization, a group of remarkable women who work alongside police officers and social workers to track down and incarcerate child abusers. Jackie, Mildred, Thuli, Eureka and Studla are featured in this searing documentary about the growing female resistance against an ongoing onslaught of male violence in South Africa. Not only do these women offer victims of abuse care and much needed hope, but they also work to obtain legal evidence against the offenders-a substantial effort that often leads to arrests.

ROUGH AUNTIES was shot and directed by internationally acclaimed director Kim Longinotto
