Dedicated to the survivors of the December 26, 2004 Asian tsunami, Laya Project is an award-winning, visually spectacular tribute to the resilience of the human spirit. Featuring musicians from the tsunami-affected areas of Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Maldives, Myanmar, and India, the film showcases rarely documented performances of the region's diverse folk music traditions. When the field recordings are brought back to a studio in Chennai, musician/producer Patrick Sebag invites additional local musicians to add their unique musical sensibilities, mixing the songs with contemporary sounds while preserving the spirit of the originals. Directed by Harold Monfils. (India/Malaysia, 2006, 67 min. No MPAA rating.)

"Laya Project is full of haunting vocals, restless rhythms, and glorious exoticism that a mere wall of water could never wash away." -www.worldmusiccentral.org
