ARGYRO CHRISTODOULIDES (Composer-Arranger-Performer)
Argyro Christodoulides was born in Nicosia (Cyprus) in 1982. She began studying piano at the age of six and theory of music at the age of ten. Having obtained the Royal School of Music diplomas in both piano and theory she then attended courses of classical guitar, orchestration and jazz theory. Argyro began to compose at the age of nine and after a successful audition, in the year 2001 she was offered a place to study composition (with professors Alessandro Timossi and Julian Philips) and piano performance (with Peter Bithell) at the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London where she graduated in 2005. Along with composition and piano performance she studied orchestration, arrangement and conducting with Alan Hazeldine and took part in a series of master-classes with the renowned composer and musicologist Alexander Goehr.
Argyro’s works have been performed in London, France, Athens, Latvia, Germany, Nicosia etc. She is an active artist who composes and performs in many concert halls and music venues. Her list of works includes compositions for small and large ensembles, contemporary operas, a great number of songs for various CD productions along with music for animation movies, 3D/2D games, theatrical plays, documentaries, t.v. and radio commercials. Her orchestral works were performed by the Orchestra of the Swan (U.K.), the Guildhall School orchestra and the Cyprus State Orchestra. She had one of her works published by the Billaudot Publishing House in Paris in 2003. Her music was performed in various festivals, (Sir Michael Tippett, City of London Festival, Big Bang Movie festival, Annecy Summer Film Festival etc). She has written music for three short animation movies and the showings took place at the NFT (National Film and T.V. Studios in London), France, China, Latvia and Greece. One of the animation movies titled ‘Petrified’ won a distribution prize at the Big Bang movie festival (Athens, Greece).
In May 2007 within the European Union celebrations (Literary Marathon), Argyro was given a distinction and performance for composing the music on three poems by renowned Greek poet Kavafi.
In 2008 she signed a contract for a number of her instrumental works (for film, documentaries, commercials etc) with Prolific Arts Inc. a music library based in Texas, USA.
In 2009 she was commissioned to compose the main title music for National Geographic’s 3D game (Natural Wonders), to be released in 2010.
As a pianist Argyro has performed in various free piano improvisation concerts in Nicosia, Paris and London.
