There's more news coming from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences than just the increase in the number of nominees in the "Best Picture" category. Today A.M.P.A.S. announced that results of the annual branch elections of governors of the organization.
Lynne Littman was elected to the Documentary Branch of the Academy Board for the first time. Littman was elected to fill the seat originally held by Michael Apted,
who stepped down early because work obligations will keep him out of
the country all year. She will serve for two years, the remainder of
Apted's term.
Incumbent governor Rob Epstein will return to the Documentary Branch of the board. Documentary governor Richard Pearce was not up for reelection, and continues his term.
Last week, the Academy extended invitations to 134 artists and executives "who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures." Documentary filmmakers on the list include William Gazecki, Rachel Grady, Rory Kennedy, Scott Hamilton Kennedy, James Marsh, Megan Mylan and Doug Pray.
