PBS Dominates News and Doc Emmy Nods; 'The War' Captures Six Primetime Noms

PBS swamped the competition with 38 News and Documentary Emmy nods, with P.O.V. snaring six nominations, and the America at a Crossroads project getting five. Among the other traditional doc venues,. National Geographic had 12 nods, and HBO, 10. The awards ceremony, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, takes place September 22 in New York City. The Prime Time Emmy nominations were announced today out of the Burbank, Calif. headquarters for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Among the nonfiction leaders, The War, Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's 17-hour opus on World War II, earned nods for directing editing, writing, sound editing and sound mixing, while Tricia Regen's Autism: The Musical and Ira Glass' This American Life received four nominations each and Original Productions/Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch reeled in four.
