Production News: 'An American Family' and CoCo Hit the Big Screen
There's nothing like having an established name attached to your film to garner attention...or so producers hope. Two recently announced films are jumping on the franchise bandwagon.
As reported in
The Hollywood Reporter, HBO and producer Gavin Polone are reaching back to the 1970's for a fictional behind-the-scenes look at the Loud family, who were featured in the controversial PBS documentary series
An American Family. The film is currently titled
Cinema Verite, and Shari Springer Berman and Bob Pulcini (
American Splendor) are on tap to direct. If you're not familiar with the series, let's just say it blows Jon and Kate out of the water.
Another option: Center your film around a star that has a dedicated following. Someone who currently has a lot of public sympathy going for him. Like, say, Conan O'Brien.
Deadline.com reports that Coco is looking to do a documentary based on his 30-city live show,
"The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour." No word yet on whether it will be a straight concert film, or more of a full-fledged behind-the-scenes piece.
