Doc U: Master Class with Executive Producer/Director Abigail Disney

IDA Offices, 3470 Wilshire Blvd. Suite 980, Los Angeles CA 90010

Executive Producer/Director Abigail Disney (The Armor of Light; Pray the Devil Back to Hell) kicks off IDA’s 2015/16 season of Master Classes with this special session that focuses on the important role of the Executive Producer on docs. Drawing on her wide-ranging experience as Executive Producer on various social issue docs, Abigail will address such critical questions as: How can an EP help raise money at crucial stages in your film’s life? What are the “do’s” and “don’ts” of approaching someone to EP your film? What makes for a successful relationship between an EP and a Director/Producer? Using her newest film, The Armor of Light, Abigail’s directorial debut, as case study, she will also discuss the specific challenges of making social issue documentaries and using them as a tool for change.

As a special aspect of the class, a limited number of attendees will be given the opportunity to make a short pitch in class, receiving “live” feedback from Abigail. Those registering will be sent further information about how to submit loglines.

This class is designed for:

  • Documentary directors/producers who need to know the “ins” and “outs” of the Executive Producer role
  • Documentary directors/producers in any phase of a project seeking insights into fundraising strategies
  • Filmmakers looking to make impactful social change films
  • Any filmmaker who wishes to improve his or her skills in pitching projects to potential supporters

Built into the Master Class will be a generous amount of time for Q&A.
