Sorry if this has long since been addressed, but it's concerning me:

I just finished a doc that uses a lot of clips from the Prelinger Archives on archive.org--all of which were an unqualified "Public Domain" under the Creative Commons License.

Now, when you click on the "Public Domain" link, it always says the Prelinger material is classified this way using a "retired tool" that Creative Commons no longer uses.

This is confusing to me: based on forum comments by Prelinger, it is indeed PD material, yet this "retired tool" keeps coming up.

Can someone with experience please clarify whether the material's status is PD or not?
