AFI FEST 2007 Hollywood, CA
AFI FEST 2007, held in Los Angeles, CA, spans 10 days each November and features international films from emerging filmmakers, global showcases of the latest work from the great film masters, nightly special screenings and red-carpet gala premieres. CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - WGBH AND NATIONAL BLACK PROGRAMMING CONSORTIUM In partnership with the WGBH Lab, NBPC invites you to contribute to a much needed discourse on race relations in America. One hundred and fifty years after the end of slavery, Americans continue to struggle with the legacy of this history and its impacts on society and on every day life.
"Banished" - a film by Marco Williams to be broadcast to PBS in February- explores a little known story of how slavery and racism still reverberated in the 20th century - the forcible and wholesale removal of Black families from their communities during 1920s.
In our nation, no wide-ranging plan has yet been adopted to acknowledge or redress these actions. As individuals and as a nation, how do we resolve past wrongs, especially around matters of race? The WGBH Lab and the National Black Programming Consortium invite you to pitch us your idea for a video short exploring belonging versus expulsion, anger versus forgiveness, guilt versus reparations.
Selected pitches receive production funding and editorial support. Shorts may be presented in conjunction with WGBH/PBS's Black History Month programming in February.

DOORPOST FILM PROJECT - CONTEST and FESTIVAL Inaugural film contest offers aspiring filmmakers the chance to springboard their careers through the Doorpost Film Project, a new contest that will offer monetary awards totaling $300,000 to a fresh wave of talent who produce compelling short films.
The inaugural contest, which has two competitive rounds culminating with a Film Festival in Nashville, Tennessee in September 2008, provides a grand prize totaling $100,000 and second and third place awards for $30,000 and $20,000 respectively.
Interested filmmakers may register online at www.thedoorpost.com;
Early registration closes April 1. Filmmakers may then upload their submitted films between February 1 and May 1. During the first round, each submitted film goes through a two-level judging process: online viewers and a panel of prominent film industry professionals. A group of 15 finalists from round one will each be provided $10,000 to compete in the second round of the contest which begins in June 2008.
The Doorpost Film Project is aimed at discovering and developing filmmakers capable of producing films that inspire and influence, rather than simply entertain. The Doorpost invites hopeful filmmakers to tackle topics of love, greed, redemption, pain, forgiveness, freedom or energy in a non-genre specific short (under five minutes), accepted in any format.
