Aliyu Salisu Barau hails from Kano, Northern Nigeria; he holds B.Sc and M.Sc from the Bayero University’s Geography Department. Currently, lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Kano with research interests and consultancy services on population, sustainability, climate change, land use, and tourism. Public relations officer officer Kano Heritage Society and member stakeholder’s forum for enlistment of Kano heritage sites into UNESCO heritage list. His published books include: An Account of High Population in Kano State, The Great Attractions of Kano, he is an appointed contributor to the US based Encyclopedia of Earth. He scripted and narrated documentary films like: Kano - The Africa’s Global City; From Bagauda to Bayero: Continuity and Change in the Kano Emirate. Aliyu featured in several local and international journals, books of proceedings and anthologies. Member of several international academic organisations and research forums like: International Union for Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP), Union for African Population Studies (UAPS); Population Environment Research Network (PERN); Association of American Geographers (AAG), Association of Nigerian Geographers (ANG); Research-Gate and several community based organisations; an international prize winning essayist (FMU South Carolina), and expert on public environmental education. Aliyu discusses population-environment issues with BBC, Deutsche Welle, and VOA radio stations and in several national dailies and websites. He attends global meetings across continents e.g. 5th African Population Conference at Arusha, 26th IUSSP Conference at Marrakech; and United Nations’ University’s EFMSV 2008 and IHDP Open Meeting 2009 held at Bonn and TSBE conference, King Saud University, Riyadh.
