Biography: Daniel Cherrin is a filmmaker and photographer committed to exploring and expanding human rights for all people. Cherrin began producing documentaries as a film student at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. His work has grown to include video art and still photography. Cherrin's images have been published by a variety of magazines and news outlets and displayed in many galleries, screenings, and shows globally. As a filmmaker, Cherrin focuses his camera on the plight of dispossessed people to empower them in their quest for economic security, peace and justice. He documents a wide range of political struggles, from weekly vigils of the Pennsylvania Chester County Peace Movement to expeditions with Physicians for Human Rights throughout Israel and Palestine. In his travels Cherrin has gained access to marginalized communities, most recently including Bedouins, Palestinians, and Refugees from Darfur. He documents the story as it unfolds before him, believing that the presence of a camera protects and encourages free speech. Cherrin has a unique ability to work comfortably with others. He has filmed people on four continents, working most recently with the Bedouins in the Sinai Peninsula. His sensitivity to the way in which a camera can be intrusive and alter social dynamics has made it possible for him to understand situations and work with people from a wide range of cultures, successfully gathering quality images and information in a way that fosters community respect.
