While working as a professional actor, I took off for a couple of years to dedicate myself to making my first documentary, Gernika Lives. In 1986, about the bombing of Gernika, and the Spanish Civil War. I had grown up hearing my father's tormented stories of war, poverty, and unjustifiable misery. I felt it was my calling and responsibility to share that story with the world, even if at that time nobody cared. I learned so much about filmmaking, and how to tell a profoundly personal and yet universal story of injustice. In the hopes of leaving this world a more peaceful place, I continue to make my humble artistic contributions that reflect my experiences, observations, and inquiries as a spiritual outlet of expression and my way of putting the pieces together of our past with our present and a hopeful future. begonyplaza.com
