Hasan started his career in Cairo, heading the production department at Intermarkets Advertising producing well over 100 TV commercials and documentaries across Egypt. Hasan moved to San Francisco in 1997 to pursue a MFA in Film and Television. His student thesis project won the ANDY Award of Distinction from the New York Advertising Club, the prestigious San Francisco Advertising Cub Show 13, as well as the AAC Annual Spring Show awards (1998/1999).
Moving to Los Angeles in the year 2000, Hasen began to specialize in non-fiction programs and documentaries for television. Among his credits are many specials and series for Discovery networks, A&E, MTV, The History Channel, MSNBC, PBS, ABC and CBS. Ashraf Hasen also holds a BA in Journalism from the American University in Cairo. He is also an active member of the International Documentary Association (IDA) and represented in the US by the KMP agency.
In Egypt, he worked with most of the top production companies, major studios and TV networks in Cairo. He helped to launch OnTV, one of top private TV stations in Egypt. Later he was the in-house producer and director at TNP (Tarek Nour Productions). Hasan's most recent work was “Nubia and the Great Temple” produced for the (SCA) Supreme Council of Antiquities and field producing the hit TV series "Chasing Mummies" on the History Channel.
