Los Angeles native Wayne Calvin Byrd II began his professional and academic careers at the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1994. While earning a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies, Wayne was nominated to run for Student Body President. Against great odds, he ran an innovative and exciting campaign which culminated in a landslide victory solidifying Wayne as the most popular president in the history of the University.
While leading a constituency of 20,000 students and balancing a budget of over $2,000,000, Wayne honed his technique as a motivational speaker. Because of his great successes, and his ability to awaken and inspire people to greatness, Wayne was continually invited to speak before audiences throughout California.
Shortly after his graduation in 1998, Wayne was one of 21 students from all over the world admitted to the prestigious and highly exclusive Graduate School of Theatre, Film and Television at the University of California at Los Angeles. In 2002 Wayne earned a Master of Fine Arts in Film Directing and Production, the highest degree offered in the country in his discipline.
Wayne went on to co-found 828 Entertainment, a Los Angeles film and video production company and has since written, directed and produced award winning films that have screened all over the world. His films have received festival acclaim and have helped Wayne to become a highly sought-after speaker throughout the United States.
In 2005, Wayne decided to sharpen his leadership abilities. He applied and was accepted into the Doctoral Program in Organizational Leadership at Pepperdine University.
After completing his coursework, Wayne co-founded The Byrd Group Inc, a leadership and communication skills training company. Since then, Wayne earned a professional coaching certification and has traveled extensively throughout the world facilitating seminars on leadership and communication.
In 2009, Wayne graduated from his doctoral program and was subsequently invited to join the faculty at Pepperdine University. Dr. Wayne accepted the invitation and is currently a professor in the Film Studies department.
