Biography:

Lisa Gross works as an education advocate in Los Angeles, California . The job of an advocate is to protect the special education rights of students with learning disabilities (under the Individual Disabilities Education Act) and ensure that they are provided the most appropriate supports and services by the school and district. Working as an independent contractor for a non-profit mental health agency, Lisa saw up close how students with learning disabilities from low-income minority neighborhoods were being ignored, how the system had given up on them, and ultimately how their civil rights were being violated. Her outrage turned into action – and she is currently working on PUSH OUT a documentary about low-income minority students with learning disabilities and their over-representation in the juvenile justice system.
