Biography:

Jason Pfaff – multi dimensional music/ filmmaking
"It starts with a song in C minor and ends in global domination

Buffalo, New York composer and producer of classical and electronic based pieces, writer and filmmaker: Jason Pfaff releases “Battle Battle” CD, on Cashcow Production label. Jason plays drums, piano/keyboards and sings, along with remixing tracks including one by Ireland’s ‘Riblars’. Jason is the younger brother of the late Kristen Pfaff; activist and bassist of the bands Hole (Geffen Records, ‘live through this’ LP triple-platinum) and Janitor Joe (Amphetamine Reptile). Jason is a multi scholarship award winner and holds a degree in Music Business and Music Industry. He played drums and managed the all male indie rock trio, Rainbow Girls, a staple in Buffalo’s mid ‘90’s South Loft scene. Rainbow Girls were signed to Buffalo’s Cash Cow Recording Company with like-minded acts such as Milf (Caroline Records), Loli-pop, Tugboat Annie (Big Top) and Spavid.
Cash Cow released the Rainbow Girls “Brainbomb” 7 inch single in 1996 to critical acclaim in Billboard Magazine, Punk Planet and others. The band toured briefly and shared bills with Ween, Mule, and many more.
Pfaff then moved on to focus on his experimental electronic-based projects under the name Ribcage. Pfaff’s ‘Ribcage’ won a significant song contest in the UK magazine Future Music (2000) but passed on the deal tending to fatherhood.. Ribcage involved collaborations with infamous Buffalo artists such as Steve Baczkowski, DJ Tommee, DJ Marcos and the Knowmatic Tribe, and performances at several Buffalo based multi-media events featuring other local artists such as Tony Conrad, the late Mark Freeland, and the Crash Orchestra. In 2007, Pfaff formed: Pfaff, Flood, and Gorman, an original instrumental multi-genre trio that performed in Buffalo until 2009.
Currently, Jason Pfaff operates a small multi-media company called Nowon Productions that has manifested many successful multi-media performances including fund-raisers and community based events. Pfaff is currently pursuing a music-publishing deal, and planning a documentary film while writing two feature film screenplays.
“…The entire album has life of its own when listened to in full. There are a few difficult tasks to overcome when it comes to electronic composition--the first is giving songs an emotional weight,…its Pfaff’s deft control of the piano, especially in the opening and closing tracks, that showcase a compositional creativity, allowing even the dancier tracks on the album to have depth and emotion.
The second difficult task in electronic composition is the balance between electronic and organic elements. A lot of artists concentrate on making organic sounds inorganic, but the best electronic artists know how to blend the two. The track’s Love II & Love, best exemplify this, with tribal beats building out of soundscapes and synths, comparable to Four Tet or even Radiohead’s later work. These songs slide between chaotic and tranquil, and the balance of the two songs adds to the cinematic theme of the album.
Overall, the album offers the listeners a sanctuary to be creative themselves; the cinematicism of the songs beg for visual accompaniment. One can almost see the end credits rolling as the drums swell in the album's final track Opus Aloria. One of the best things an electronic album can do is put the listener in a space that’s almost meditative, allowing them to hear a story in the instruments, much like how each observer of a painting will impart their own meaning to the finished canvas. This album has that quality. If you’re a fan of Ninja Tune, Mo Wax, Domino, Compost Records, or a fan of quality,
interesting music, Jason Pfaff’s battle battle album should be in your collection.”
