Biography: Larry Rattner is a founding partner in Choices, a distributor of quality documentaries and specialty films. Formed in 1999 for the purpose of releasing acclaimed documentaries and independent films throughout the United States, Choices acquires films from all over the world. The Choices website is www.ChoicesVideo.net. Recent releases include the acclaimed documentaries Daughters of Afghanistan, Checkpoint, and In the Tall Grass, winner of ALA Notable Videos for Adults in 2007. In April 2009, they released Danny Schechter’s “Barak Obama: People’s President, The Campaign That Changed History” a documentary that examines the grassroots campaign that helped Obama win the election and "Viva Mandela" which tells his complete story - a life of struggle, humanity, destiny and greatness is recalled and celebrated by those who knew him best and those who worked with him to break the chain of oppression. In addition, Rattner in an indepedent producer of independent films. His first independent film, the award winning "Horseplayer", screened in competition at the Sundance Film Festival before receiving critical acclaim during its domestic theatrical release. Rattner’s other films include: "Genuine Risk", released by Columbia/Tri-Star and IRS Media, and starring Terence Stamp and Peter Berg. "Small Time", starring Jeff Fahey, Darren McCain, Rae Dawn Chong, and James Russo, won the Jury Award at the 1996 Santa Barbara International Film Festival. "Lover Girl" starring Kristy Swanson, Sandra Bernhard, and Loretta Devine was an official selection in the competition section of the Toronto International and AFI Film Festivals. Larry Rattner produced the feature film "Dahmer". Written and directed by David Jacobson and starring Jeremy Renner and Bruce Davison, Dahmer enjoyed a nationwide theatrical release before receiving three Independent Spirit Award nominations including the John Cassavetes Best Picture Award. "Day on Fire" written and directed by Jay Anania was completed in September of 2006. The film starring Martin Donovan, Olympia Dukakis and Carmen Chaplin was invited to the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival and the 2006 Berlin International Film Festival. Rattner's latest film, "Life is Hot in Cracktown" shows the gritty, hard realities of street life, as well as the struggling, proud people who try to survive them day by day. The film's cast includes Kerry Washington, Evan Ross, Shannyn Sossamon, Rza, Victor Rasuk, Brandon Routh, Lara Flynn Boyle, and Desmond Harrington. It opens at the Laemmle Sunset 5 Theater on June 26, 2009.
