I'm a freelance Cinematographer currently based in Mumbai (Bombay), India who shoots regularly for features, commercials, documentaries and music videos.
¬Mark Lapwood A.C.S. – Director / Cinematographer – Biography
Mark was born in New Zealand where his professional life began as a Press Photographer on the ‘Evening Standard’ daily newspaper at the age of 16 after capturing front-page photographs of a raging hotel fire.
During the mid 90’s Mark developed a passion for the big screen through telling stories with images in multi screen audio visual shows before progressing to the Australian film industry where he worked as a freelance (motion picture) camera assistant in Sydney.
During this time he trained under some of the world most respected Cinematographers including Don McAlpine, Simon Duggan, Martin McGrath, Mandy Walker, John Seale & Dion Beebe.
Mark graduated from the Australian Film TV and Radio School (AFTRS) in 2000 with an MA in Cinematography.
He has now shot over fifty short films, over a hundred commercials, two features, plus several music videos and documentaries.
In November 2002 Mark won the prestigious ‘Gold’ Award at the Australian Cinematographers Society ACS NSW Awards
for his work on ‘Maya’ his debut feature as Cinematographer, shot in India.
In May 2003 Mark also won an 'Award of Distinction for Cinematography’ at the ACS Nationals for his work on ‘Maya.’
His work to date has taken him to the United States, Great Britain, Switzerland, Egypt, Hong Kong, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Singapore, India, the Philippines, Australia and New Zealand.
Mark’s debut short film as Director/Cinematographer ‘Eclipse’ also shot in India, received a ‘Gold’ Award at the Australian Cinematographers Society ACS NSW Awards in November 2006. In December 2007 Mark was honoured to receive a prestigious AFI (Australian Film Institute) Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Short Film Screen Craft - Cinematography’ also for ‘Eclipse’.
Currently Mark spends most of his time in India whilst shooting features, commercials, documentaries & music videos
in the sub-continent & around the world.
