Biography: Mayte Vicens
Born in Valencia, Spain, Mayte Vicens has performed and choreographed throughout Europe and America. Her studies (ballet, modern, jazz) included the Rosella Hightower School of Dance in Cannes, France. Mayte also graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Art and Dance in Valencia, Spain where she received a Masters degree in Spanish Dance and Flamenco. As a musician she composes music and has studied piano at the Conservatory of Music in Valencia, Spain. While attending Rosella Hightower School she performed at the Cannes Film Festival in Songe D’Une Nuit D’Ete choreographed by Edward Cook and Rosella Hightower. She appeared as the Prima Ballerina in the Madeline Renard productions performing Dracula, La Traviata, and Carmen in Valencia, Spain. Her professional specialties include American Ballroom, Latin, Argentine Tango, Jazz, Spanish Dance, and Flamenco. Mayte has performed throughout Europe, Cuba and United States. She currently coaches these dance styles around the world.
Mayte studied and performed with the greatest Flamenco master Martin Vargas (Master teacher of Canales, Joaquin Cortes, and Antonio Marquez). Ms. Vicens also danced in his company. After her mentor’s death Mayte decided to move to New York City in 2001 to pursue her growth in her versatile career.
Mayte appeared in "Dance in the Screen" in Valencia, Spain as both choreographer and soloist combining Afro-Latin Jazz styles and American Ballroom. Ms. Vicens toured Spain with a Latin Pop group entitled Orquesta Samoa, serving as Dancer, Vocalist, and Choreographer. She performed at the National Dance Festival in Spain (1st place "Cha Cha", "Mambo"), Tito Puente Tribute (Ran Can Can, Choreographer), Top Mulaben (1st place Choreography Rueda de Salsa), Bacardi Salsa Congress (Choreography, Special Event; Spain), and South American Ambassadors Gala ("Circulo De Las Artes", Spain). As an entrepreneur, Ms. Vicens owned and operated Escuela de Danza-Mambo and Culture Dancesport, two of the largest sports complexes at that time in Valencia, Spain. She was also Executive and Artistic Director of her own dance company for three years in Valencia.
As a professional ballroom dancer Ms. Vicens has appeared in the motion pictures Mona Lisa Smile , Stepford Wives, and Enchanted(Disney) as principal dancer. She has also worked with the Chamber Music Society of New Jersey as choreographer-in-residence and performer. In the US, she performed as an invited guest at the Stardust Festival (EEUU Latin American Master Show). Ms. Vicens appeared in the annual Vienna Opera Ball at the Waldorf-Astoria where she danced the Viennese style waltz as a soloist. Maria has become well known in the world of Latin Dance. Mayte received a contract with MCI/Worldcom to choreograph and perform a Flamenco piece on national television. She has modeled and choreographed for Bennetton, Saint Johns and many others. She choreographed and directed the Latin Jazz Tango Fusion Project, presented at Colden Center, NY, under the musical direction of Michael Philip Mossman. Most recently, Mayte has been cast as principal dancer in the upcoming Disney film, “Enchanted.”
Her most recent work as a choreographer was performed at the Harris Theater, Chicago. A forty minutes Jazz Ballet "Beneath the Mask". Music composed by Michael Philip Mossman, played by the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, directed by John Fadis and performed by the renowned Dance Company Deeply Rooted.
Ms Vicens recently work for TV was as a dancer and choreographer on the national commercial for Soft Bank starring the actress Cameron Diaz.

Recently, Ms. Vicens has begun work on her upcoming Broadway Show "Flame" with the collaboration of the dance captain from Forever Tango Broadway Show Jorge Torres.
Mayte lives in Westchester, New York and coaches Latin, Tango Argentino, Ballroom and Flamenco dancers as well as travels as artist in residence choreographing and giving workshops around the country. She is now also a buddy teacher for the American Ballroom Theater for the program Dance in Classrooms, a program featured in the movie “Take the Lead”, starring Antonio Banderas. Mayte is very pleased to be under the direction of the world re-knonwed dancers and choreographers Pierre Dulaine and Yvonne Marceau, co-founders and directors of this program. Ms Vicens performs with the group Soul con Timba as a vocalist, on the newest album “Live at Bohemian Caverns” managed and produced by Charlie Fishman (Dizzy’s Formal Manager).Mayte is the artistic director, choreographer, and member of the Tango Jazz Fusion Company ”Timba Tango”- a sizzling cutting edge combination of live music and dance that fusions flamenco, tango, salsa and jazz performed with elegance, mastery, and passion.
