Biography: Everything comes to those who hustle while he waits. - Thomas Edison
Monique Woods has never been one to wait for anything and she’s definitely not known for letting opportunities pass her by. From tackling p.a. jobs on music videos while working full-time at ESPN Classic to coordinating live events like AIDS Walk NY and LA to teaching film and video production at Bainbridge College in South Georgia, Monique’s resume is as diverse as it is long.
Producing, shooting, editing, writing, or working as a costumer, as long as it’s about telling a story and creating an image, Monique will make it happen. While at ESPN she picked up the video camera and practiced by shooting street basketball games at the Rucker. That BetaCam was bigger than her! Then she bought her own digital camera and followed artists like Alicia Keys, shooting interviews and performances just to hone her skills. Self-taught on both the Avid and Final Cut Pro, Monique utilized her natural rhythm and pacing to create stories - much like the ones that she writes. She has produced projects that have aired on BET, MTV, TLC, All Access and local cable as well as those that were released by Vibe, Universal, J Records, etc.
Known as a talented filmmaker, her music documentary, “Finally Sayin’ What I Really Mean…” has won awards both in the US and the UK. It has been programmed at film festivals across the globe - London, Liverpool, Jamaica, Atlanta, San Francisco, DC, NY, etc. - garnering rave reviews for the compelling substance as well as edgy film style.
Not one to rest on her laurels but always seeking to grow and learn, Monique has taken on the role of costumer for feature films in order to learn the ins and outs of Hollywood movie sets. She has been a costumer on films such as ATL, Stomp the Yard, One Missed Call, Road Trip 2, The Crazies and Ashton Kutcher’s Five Killers. Her hard work and diligence earned her the privilege of working as Katherine Heigl’s personal dresser on Five Killers.
So, what comes with all of this experience? The opportunity to travel the world, meet people from all walks of life and levels of entertainment just gives Monique fodder for more stories to write, visuals for more images to create. And the hustle continues with independent projects in the works and big plans from her company, Nadiri Creative Media, LLC coming to a cable network near you...
