I initially developed my nonfiction expertise as an acquisitions editor at the New York trade book publishing imprints of HarperCollins, Henry Holt, and New Republic Books. There was a supplementary fiction component in my work, and I also did coverage of books for such clients as Touchstone Pictures and Aaron Spelling Productions.
An overseas stint followed in Europe, where I established a base in Kyiv (Kiev), Ukraine and executed journalism, research, and media projects in the region for American and western European public sector and corporate clients. This included serving as executive producer and content shaper of extensive television and radio programming in both Ukrainian and Russian that was financed by the United States Agency for International Development in democratization and market reform efforts. Afterwards corporate media relations projects took me from London to Munich to Moscow and beyond to Central Asia, and all this fascinating work confirmed my ability to operate effectively in multi-lingual environments often shaped by opaque, complex political and cultural nuances.
After relocation to San Francisco I remain involved with international projects, as there are many stories to be told to a global, English-speaking audience about the mosaic of cultures east of Berlin and Vienna. I wrote and co-directed and co-edited the arts documentary A KINGDOM REBORN: TREASURES OF UKRAINIAN GALICIA and am currently developing additional films, including an architectural history doc on the Secessionist chocolate box city of Lviv, also known in previous incarnations as Lemberg, Lwow, Lvov, and Leopolis!
Concurrently, I continue my freelance work in the Bay Area and I contribute to communications efforts by the Burning Man Project as I am deeply interested in contemporary forms of urbanism, utopian communities, interactive public art, and radical self-expression.
