Brief Message to Members: I'm a 20+ year veteran editor and I also am a narrator.
Biography: Paul Markey has been an editor in the Baltimore-Washington area for over twenty years serving clients small and large, local and national. Among those clients are Titan Sports (World Wrestling Federation, WWF now WWE), Paramount Pictures, Discovery Communications’ national and international networks, and the Smithsonian’s United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington – to name but a few. Markey’s philosophy on editing is that the editor should act as “the producer’s producer”, and he or she should be prepared to step in to any role to fill the gaps in the process. In much the same way that budgets, scope of work and time have to do with how many people are on a production crew (DP’s serving as LD’s, Grips, Gaffers, etc.) an editor will many times need to also be the special effects supervisor, writer, graphic designer, sound designer, dubber, etc. Additionally, Markey can’t emphasize enough how important it is to have the editor involved in the conceptual phase of a project. It is here where the editor can see what the client’s vision is and then bring that vision through to fruition far more effectively and – most important – much more efficiently. In those times where Markey has been allowed to participate in the project from beginning to end (including occasional supervisory roles on shoots as needed) the projects have surpassed expectations and they have come in at or below budget and on time – many, many times BEFORE deadlines. Paul Markey is a national EMMY voting member of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS), and a voting member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). Markey has also won several Tellys, an ITS Monitor nomination, and a CINE Special Jury Award for his efforts on many projects over the years.
