Biography: Started in Television Cable production in 1975 at the age of 16 by TD and Directing local originating cable talk shows by El Paso area radio personalities. Interned with several major radio personalities during my high school years with El Paso and Juarez Mexico high power X stations on the AM band. Relocated to Odessa Texas in 1977 with my first on-air slot on AM 1410 'THE RIG 14, KRIG' TOP 40 station. Various stints up the ladder in El Paso in 1978-1980 with KSET-FM Disco 95, KSET-AM 1340, Progressive Country K102, AOR KPAS FM 94, and AC KROD-AM 600. In 1980 settled in Odessa Midland on KQIP FM 96.9 AC for 5.5 years as a big fish in that small pond. Diversified in 1984 to write copy and freelance on KTPX ABC 9 for their sales department - joining them in 1986 when they became KTPX NBC 9 as a Copywriter, Sales Liaison, Field Producer, Executive Sales Producer and Promotions Assistant. Highlights included working Oprah Winfrey's 2nd on location show from Midland Texas in 1987, the Jessica McClure rescue coverage and community service campaigns. Joined KNFM 92.3 Country and TV Cable advertising as a copywriter, producer and afternoon drive personality in 1988.
In 1990 went back to college at UT El Paso to complete a postponed BA (Journalism/Theater Arts) degree (completed in 1994), and a Masters of Interdisciplinary Communication Studies (Completed in 2001) studying the art of film, documentaries, broadcast television, programming and production relating to English, Journalism, Philosophy, Speech, History, Political Science, Literature, and Theater Arts including play writing, novels, lighting design, directing, and consulting with Communications Professor Dr. Barthy Byrd on the emerging change into digital transmission, satellite networks, HDTV, and non-linear production including one of the first early AVID demonstrations on campus in 1994. Research assistance to Dr. Byrd on several NPR specials for 88.5 FM KTEP including PATRIOT MISSILES in the first Gulf War (units based at Ft. Bliss/El Paso) and early AM border blaster "X" stations including XEROK 800 / XELO.
In 1996 joined KZIA UPN 48 Lee Enterprises station as the Creative Services Director and Production Manager overseeing all commercial, station and promotions production including the development of several infomercial programs. In late 1997 joined the neighboring Defense Contractor MEE Incorporated to create its corporate video unit with Sony DVCAM and Media 100 NLE platforms. In 1999 created my own company Steve Myers Creative Services with Sony DVCAM and Media 100 NLE Platforms with credits in 2 national PBS Documentaries (LORDS OF THE MAFIA: LORD OF THE SKIES & GRAFFITI), subcontract footage under producer/editor Ed. W. Marsh for Robert Stack; 1 Regional documentary with Jackson Polk's Capstone Productions (TIGUA INDIANS: FIRST TRIBE OF TEXAS); plus behind the scenes footage for the 2001 Paramount Feature film THE LATIN KINGS OF COMEDY with Cheech Marin, George Lopez and Paul Rodriguez for Payaso productions. Produced regionally for the Baptist General Convention of Texas in tandem with the El Paso Baptist Association for area border missions projects in Mexico, Texas, New Mexico and the USA in addition to serving a variety of nonprofit organizations throughout Texas.
Relocated to Dallas Fort Worth in late 2001 streamlining into Steve Myers Productions for a variety of private clients airing programming on the Daystar and Trinity Broadcasting Networks, in addition to Corporate and Industrial features. Developed nonprofit partners in 2005 and 2006 producing a handful of privately funded oral history projects in the town of Mansfield and adjacent city of Arlington Texas - following a similar path template as colleague Jackson Polk's Capstone Productions in El Paso towards grant funded historical documentary, short and full length feature films of historical content.
Have three subjects in the development stages for PBS independently produced documentaries slated for filming in 2009, 2010 and 2011 for air possibilities in 2010, 2011 and 2012, in addition to regional film festivals. Spent most of 2008 investigating, researching and training in grant writing, production company contracts, and assembling a crew of area long time former broadcast and/or film crew specialists for my company to begin preliminary research, budgeting and grant writing submissions on area historical, social services and civil rights subjects.
