Biography: Stu Maddux is a multi-award winning documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles, California. He freelances as a director, cinematographer, writer and editor while working on his own projects. His films include the critically-acclaimed Bob and Jack’s 52-Year Adventure, about an Army sergeant who began an affair with his commanding officer in 1952. The two men came out to the troops in their unit and are still together a half-century later. His most recent documentary, Trip To Hell And Back, is about a famous horse rider who reveals for the first time his secret life as a high-stakes crystal-methamphetamine dealer. It won Grand Prize for Short Documentary at it’s premiere during the Rhode Island Intl. Film Festival. Currently in production is Gen Silent a film documenting the LGBT generation that fought hardest to come out of the closet now going back into hiding to protect themselves in their old age. Maddux’s work has been televised internationally and screened at more than 35 film festivals worldwide winning top honors at a handful of those. His company MAD STU Productions self-distributes his films in theaters and on DVD. Prior to independent filmmaking Maddux was a supervising producer creating television programs for national networks including ABC, BBC, VH-1 and TLC. His background is as a television reporter/anchor. He satisfied his passion for production starting at the age of 15 by creating a weekly comedy program on public access cable in Kansas City, Missouri. After college Stu began a journalism career as a videographer/editor in Peoria, Illinois, later moving to Ft. Collins, Colorado as an anchor/reporter, and still later to Des Moines, Iowa. His final nine years in a newsroom was as an anchor/reporter at the ABC affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee where he won six regional Emmies. He has a Bachelors of Journalism from the University of Missouri and speaks frequently on story writing and documentary filmmaking.
