Documentary was recently honored with a Western Publications Association Maggie Award nomination for best publication in the Communication, Advertising and The Arts/Trade category. White has been affiliated with the magazine since 1996, when he was named assistant editor; he was appointed editor in June 2000. In addition to his articles in Documentary, his work has appeared in The Independent Film & Video Monthly, The Hollywood Reporter, Variety International Film Guide, indieWIRE and Release Print (now Film Arts). White has served on the Documentary Juries of the International Documentary Challenge, the HBO Comedy Film Festival, the Denver International Film Festival and the AFI Film Fest, and on panels at the NATPE Producer’s Boot Camp, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) conference and the Seattle International Film Festival. He was a Delegate to the 2004 and 2005 editions of the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Film Festival, and he has moderated numerous panels and discussion sessions at various IDA programs. He has also worked with Vulcan Productions as a research consultant, and with independent documentary filmmakers as a resource development consultant and grant proposal writer. White received his MBA from The Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA in 1989, and he graduated from Yale University in 1982 with a BA in English.
