Seventh Art Releasing (SAR) is a producer, theatrical distributor, foreign sales and specialized marketing company for independent films funded in 1994. Our films have received many awards including an Oscar and six Academy Award nominations.

Biography: UDY EPSTEIN – SEVENTH ART RELEASING Since 1994, Udy Epstein has been the Principal of Seventh Art Releasing, an independent producer and theatrical distributor of specialized films. Seventh Art is noted for its releases of award-winning feature documentaries such as the 1997 Academy Award® winner, The Long Way Home, the 1998 Academy Award® nominee The Farm, Angola USA, the 1999 Academy Award® nominee Speaking in Strings, the Sundance 2000 Grand Jury Prize winner, Academy Award® & DGA nominee – Long Night’s Journey Into Day and the 2004 Academy Award® nominee Balseros. In 1999, both The Wildest Show in the South: The Angola Prison Rodeo and Eyewitness: The Legacy of Death Camp Art were nominated for Best Documentary Short Subject at the Academy Awards®. Seventh Art’s The Photographer (Fotoamator) was also hailed as “one of the best documentaries of 1999” by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Other Academy Award® short-listed films include Coming to Light (2000), the Nazi Officer’s Wife (2003) , Jonestown: The Life and Death of Peoples Temple (shortlist 2006) and Steal a Pencil for Me (will air on PBS in 2008). Some of Mr. Epstein’s theatrically released documentaries include: The Execution of Wanda Jean (2003), EMI’s Pleasure and Pain (2002), a music documentary about Ben Harper, MGM’s American Pimp (2000), Better Living Through Circuitry (2000), MGM’s Pop & Me (2000), EMI’s Meeting People is Easy (1999), a music documentary about Radiohead, Columbia/Miramax’s Glory Daze (1996), MCA/Universal’s A Perfect Candidate (1996) and Man of the Year (1996). In 1993, Udy produced Midnight Edition (MCA/Universal). His Executive Producer credits include Family Inc., (2008), Born Again (2007), Breast Cancer Diaries (2006), Art of Flight (2005), Call it Democracy (2004), Word Wars (2004), 5 Sides of a Coin (2003), Rubber Tramps (2002), Almost Elvis (2001), Rage: 20 Years of Punk Rock West Coast Style (2001) and Creature (2000). Mr. Epstein was a producer and screenwriter in Israel before receiving his Master of Fine Arts from the American Film Institute. His screenplay, Tattoo, was produced (IBA- MOW).
