William VanDerKloot, Writer/Director/Producer
William VanDerKloot is an independent director and producer whose career includes short films, television documentaries and theatrical features. Over the years he has traveled the world producing films on a range of subjects from public sculpture to ethnic history; from southern blues to environmental science. He has won over one hundred international film and television awards, including Emmys, CINE Golden Eagles and the George Foster Peabody Award.
His production company has created memorable projects, such as the Atlanta Olympic Film, which was used to win the bid to host the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. His most recent broadcast project, FLYING THE SECRET SKY, has aired nationally on PBS and is distributed worldwide by WGBH – Boston and the National Geographic Channels.
VanDerKloot created of the award-winning Little Mammoth Media children's programs, The BIG Adventure Series®, which are licensed in over 30 countries worldwide. VanDerKloot's projects have been distributed on such venues as PBS, Discovery, Turner Broadcasting, CNN, HBO, Showtime, domestic and international homevideo, as well as digital downloads and theatrical release.
Based in Atlanta, VanDerKloot is the founder of Magick Lantern, a full service video production company serving major advertisers, broadcasters and corporations. His 22,000 square-foot studio facility in the historic Old Fourth Ward in downtown Atlanta, offers creative production, editorial, design, and audio services, along with a fully-equipped soundstage.
VanDerKloot was the founding director of the Atlanta Film Festival. He is a guest lecturer in college film classes, and he has written about filmmaking for such industry publications as American Cinematographer. He is Chair of the University of Georgia Library Board of Visitors, and currently serves as co-President of the Georgia Production Partnership (GPP).
