About Our Film, The Bicycle City:
For the people of Rivas, Nicaragua, the bicycle is of immense importance not only as a mode of transportation, but as a means to a better life. Since 1991 over 20,000 bicycles have been brought into the city as a form of economic development aid, and they’ve transformed the society. Rivas now serves
as a model of an alternative path to development. It is also a reminder that sometimes the most monumental of challenges can be solved in the simplest of ways.
Director Greg Sucharew (Editor, Vote Jesus: The Chronicles of Ken Stevenson), and Emmy award winning producer, Felicia Jamieson (And They Flew), explore the impact of the bicycle on the society through the lives of the people who live there.
