OWN, POV, and Documentary Channel Return as Awards Sponsors

As we close out this week, we are proud to announce that three new outstanding sponsors have returned for the 27th edition of the IDA Documentary Awards.

At the Silver level, we’re pleased to welcome both the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) and PBS’s P.O.V., which features amazing programming of “documentaries with a point of view.”

Modeled after the celebrated Oprah’s Book Club, the OWN Documentary Club strives to engage audiences with stories that inspire and tales that share the human experience. Films previously featured on the OWN Documentary Club include Most Valuable Players and 2011 DocuWeeks alum Miss Representation. The Club’s website has a blog where you can learn more about each film screened on OWN, as well as information about opportunities to take the conversation beyond your living room.

PBS’s POV series is “television’s longest-running showcase for independent and non-fiction films.” Every year, POV is responsible for premiering over a dozen of the best programs available in the world of documentary storytelling. Among the great 2011 POV season, we find a fantastic line-up that includes recent DocuWeeks alum Better This World, which is currently in the running in the Best Feature category.

Along with our returning Silver Sponsors, the Documentary Channel has signed on as a Gold Sponsor of this year’s annual fundraising event. This television channel offers round-the-clock documentary programming, featuring some of the best independent documentary films of recent years and highlighting great docs from history. Offering a chance to watch full documentaries online or from your home television, the Documentary Channel is an important contribution to the world of non-fiction screening and programming.

We are pleased to have these three returning organizations featured alongside our other 2011 IDA Documentary Awards sponsors:
