Save the Date! Getting Real '20 Returns to Los Angeles Sept 22-24

Dear Documentary Friends,

It seems just yesterday when over 1,000 filmmakers and industry representatives gathered for Getting Real ‘18. It was an inspiring three days full of sessions, keynotes and case studies tackling topics from decolonization to self-care, advocacy to equity, art to impact, and much more. It was three days of networking and convenings designed to foster a stronger, more deeply connected, and more equitable documentary community. (See Documentary magazine for coverage.)

And so Getting Real ‘20 is around the corner. We’ll gather in Los Angeles from September 22-24, 2020.  Mark those dates on your calendar!

But Getting Real doesn’t magically happen. Over the past several months, we’ve gathered filmmakers to hear directly from them about their most pressing needs. So far, we’ve held meetings in Toronto, New York and Montgomery, Alabama, with several more planned in the coming months. And, we’ll be putting together a seasoned and diverse programming team and partnering with groups and organizations across the field to ensure that Getting Real ‘20 serves our community.

And, we want to hear your ideas too! Early in the New Year, we’ll begin formally soliciting your programming ideas and suggestions but in the meantime, if you have ideas about how we can make Getting Real ‘20 even better, feel free to email us at conference@documentary.org. We can’t guarantee every suggestion can be taken on, but I can assure you they will all be seriously considered.

Thanks for working with us to make this a great gathering, and we look forward to seeing you in September.
