When stretches of the Ganga River Basin dry up in the Himalayas due to intensified damming, a curious 6yr old girl who has been hearing wonderful mythological stories about the river, asks the most fundamental of questions – why. To which the mom and her brother decide to pack bags, set out and find some answers. SuryaGanga is that adventure, a wild and intense ride, a journey of discovery across the length and breadth of India as the curious trio film the social and environmental (specifically water) impact of big energy projects – hydro and coal and witness the rise of solar and wind.
A panoptic film, SuryaGanga tells the stories of marginalized people across the country while busting myths and misinformation about the energy sources and urging the viewer to think and make informed choices for themselves. And oh, the film also finds an audience in actor Naseeruddin Shah.
