About the Project

The documentary "18" is a cinematic inquiry into Steve Reich’s foundational work, Music for 18 Musicians. The film examines the piece’s structure and legacy through conversations with key musicians, composers, and critics. Musical sequences are woven throughout, visually grounding the music in the avant-garde environment of 1970s downtown New York. Together, these elements trace how a singular composition continues to resonate 50 years after its premiere.
