About the Project
The documentary El Canto de las Manos (The Song of the Hands) tells the story of four Deaf and Hard of Hearing musicians who are part of El Coro de Manos Blancas (The White Hands Choir) of El Sistema of Venezuela, an association known worldwide by the public and by the critics. The group of musicians travels from their hometown of Barquisimeto to Los Angeles to take part in a new production of the opera Fidelio, directed by Gustavo Dudamel, where they work directly with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the acclaimed Deaf West Theatre.
This experience is the perfect opportunity to narrate their way back home and their return to real life, discovering again the importance of music within the world they are facing. What our main characters do not know is that after going back to reality, something bigger awaits them, a dream come true. The way back home is affected by new dreams and hopes thanks to Gustavo Dudamel, our guide.
The Song of the Hands is a story about first times.
