Internship Opportunities

With generous support from the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, IDA is excited to offer eligible undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in a paid Summer/Fall internships. 2022 Arts Internship positions will be open to currently enrolled undergraduate (2 or 4-year) and community college students who reside or attend college in Los Angeles County. Recent graduates may apply as long as they have completed their degree between May 1 - December 1, 2022. 

The Documentary Magazine Intern will work approximately 30-40 hours per week from June 2022 through September 2022 under the supervision of IDA editorial staff to undertake research, analysis and writing that will support a thriving national documentary community. The Intern will have opportunities to learn about DA, understand the essential elements of producing a leading arts publication, and understand the national documentary landscape as well as some of the issues that are most important to filmmakers.


Open Positions


  • Marketing and Communications Coordinator

    IDA is looking for an emerging marketing professional and storyteller who can help develop quality content for diverse audiences, provide support across the organization to promote IDA programs, implement digital advertisements that generate revenue to support IDA’s mission, and engage the wider documentary community across multiple channels and platforms. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator supports a busy multifaceted Communications team, reporting to the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Design.

  • IDA Funds Program Officer

    The Program Officer is a pivotal team member, contributing to idea generation, strategic thinking, organizational networking, and collaborative team dynamics. The Program Officer works closely with the IDA Director of Funds to develop and maintain IDAs granting portfolio. The Program Officer stewards filmmaker relations (including industry meetings and grantee support), submissions, and public programs.

  • Public Programs and Events Coordinator

    As our Program Coordinator you will provide general program support, including but not limited to meeting preparation and logistics, data collection and data maintenance, event planning, onsite assistance for in-person events, and support to the professional staff and volunteers of public programs and events.

  • Awards Competition Associate (Temporary)

    The Awards Competition Associate will work with the Awards Competition Manager and the Awards Competition Coordinator in executing the competition that leads to the 2022 IDA Documentary Awards to be held in February 2023.

    The Awards Competition Associate plays a key role on the Awards Competition team, providing critical administrative and tactical support throughout the submissions, review, and selection process, and supports the Awards Production Team in the collection and organization of assets, credits, and other IDA Awards Ceremony deliverables.

  • Membership & Individual Giving Program Manager

    The International Documentary Association (IDA) is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides funding, education, resources, and services to filmmakers, creates community across a diverse nonfiction field, and defends the rights and freedoms of documentary artists, activists, and journalists around the world. Reporting to the Director of Development and working closely with the Development, Events, and Communications teams, the Membership & Individual Giving Manager will execute IDA’s membership engagement strategies and be directly responsible for the management of all data and processes related to membership recruitment and retention. The Manager will also oversee the operations and logistics of all member engagement and member mixer events. This position will collaborate closely with the Director of Development to execute fundraising strategies and events to expand IDA’s major donor program.

  • Corporate Sponsorship & Partnerships Program Officer

    Reporting to the Director of Development, the Sponsors & Partners Program Officer will oversee IDA’s earned revenue streams from paid sponsorship and advertising, driving the sales process from pitch to invoice. The Sponsors & Partners Program Officer will manage the maintenance of existing sponsorship/advertising relationships, the development of new prospects, the creation of sponsorship/ad packages and accompanying decks, and pitching. Sponsorship opportunities include film screenings, panel discussions, conferences, and awards programs. Advertising opportunities include the IDA’s Documentary Magazine (both online and print), email blasts, and website. They will collaborate with the rest of the development team to execute fundraising strategies and events to expand IDA’s earned revenue potential. The Sponsors & Partners Program Officer will also work with IDA’s senior management teams to understand programs and initiatives needing support and devise opportunities for earned revenue that will support these programs and initiatives.
