A silhouette of a solitary figure on horseback rides through a snowy Patagonian landscape in Chile. Snow covered shrubbery in the foreground with jagged mountains in the background. The plains in bewteween where the man on horseback is covered in fog.

About the Project

In the remote reaches of Chilean Patagonia, a dwindling group of gauchos known as puesteros continue to live an isolated and traditional life, resisting the pull of the modern world. While gauchos are often romanticized on screen, Los Puesteros offers a rare and intimate portrait of the real people behind the stoicism, captured through deep trust and remarkable access, and punctuated by the region’s striking, often unforgiving landscape.

The film follows seven puesteros at different life stages, weaving their stories into a collective meditation on time, isolation, class, and sacrifice of the Chilean gaucho. As modernity encroaches and younger generations drift away, Los Puesteros asks what is lost and what endures when a way of life begins to vanish.
