About the Project
SPOKE is a feature documentary that lives inside the fire service, exposing the hidden occupational health crisis firefighters carry home from the job: soaring cancer rates, unspoken trauma, and the quiet toll of violence, loss, and sleepless nights. Through intimate access to the young crew of Firehouse 13 in the United States and three‑time occupational cancer survivor Canadian Fire Captain Rudy Pospisil—who responds to a 40–50% survival prognosis by getting on a bike and riding across continents through hurricanes, headwinds, and brutal climbs—the film turns survival into relentless advocacy for firefighter health. As Station 13 trains for maydays they hope never come and Rudy rides to raise funds and awareness, SPOKE asks the question the institution has avoided for decades: who saves the people who save everyone else, twenty‑five years after 9/11, while the true cost of this job is still being counted?
