Escape to Pacific

Escape to Pacific is a six-year international documentary, marine conservation, scientific research and field expedition that brings together filmmakers, marine biologists and other specialists as one permanent field team. Operating from a dedicated sailing catamaran serving as both a floating production studio and research platform, the expedition will document some of the world's most vulnerable marine ecosystems while contributing to scientific knowledge, conservation efforts and their long-term protection.

The project is already in active production. Principal photography began in 2026 on Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, which will feature in the first episode as the expedition's final European stop before embarking on the Atlantic crossing.

The project will produce an 18-part international documentary series while carrying out structured scientific field monitoring and collaborative marine research focused on coral reefs, marine biodiversity, climate change, marine pollution, underwater noise and the overall health of ocean ecosystems. In collaboration with universities, conservation organizations and scientific institutions, the team will collect environmental data, observations and, where appropriate and permitted, biological samples that contribute to ongoing research and conservation initiatives. By returning to key locations over six years, the expedition will document environmental change that short-term projects often cannot capture.

Modern technologies will play an important role throughout the expedition. AI-assisted analysis will help process large volumes of underwater imagery and environmental data, identify and catalogue marine species, monitor changes in coral reef ecosystems, and support scientific analysis and evaluation in collaboration with research partners. Combined with advanced imaging technologies, this approach will create a unique long-term visual and scientific record that supports research, conservation and public understanding of the regions visited.

Scientific fieldwork will be fully integrated with documentary filmmaking, photography and public education. Rather than keeping scientific findings within research communities, Escape to Pacific will transform them into compelling visual stories that inspire greater public awareness and encourage meaningful action to protect our oceans. Working alongside local researchers, conservation organizations, island communities and government authorities, the expedition will ensure that scientific knowledge is shared far beyond the scientific community.
Escape to Pacific is led by filmmaker, producer and underwater cinematographer Libor Spacek together with an international team of marine biologists, filmmakers, sailors and scientific collaborators. Over the past two decades, Libor's previous documentary films have received more than one hundred international awards and have been broadcast worldwide by television networks and streaming platforms, including Disney+, Apple TV and Czech Television. This experience provides the expedition with a proven production foundation and the ability to translate scientific evidence into films, photography and educational content capable of reaching audiences around the world.
