“There are two deserts” – these were the first words published in the Desert Magazine, a mid-century monthly covering the American Southwest. As opposed to the era’s image of the desert as a wasteland, editor Randall Henderson promised his readers to offer them an honest version of what he called the “real desert”. But where does reality end and imagination begin in a landscape of false perspective?
Tracing the transforming Californian desert in past and present, Two Deserts is a 25’ documentary that playfully explores the thin line between fact and fiction, wilderness and civilization and likes and solitude.
