Breaking It Down: The Documentary Interview | Getting Real '20

A longstanding prominent aspect of non-fiction storytelling has been the interview, which at its heart is about connection. From a framed face speaking to the camera to a more vérité intimate exchange, the dialogue beween the filmmaker and interviewee contributes greatly to the voice of the film. How do filmmakers build relationship and trust with the people who they record? How do they take into account cultural and place-specific modes of storytelling to develop their own interviewing style? This group of innovative storytellers have gone beyond traditional ideas about the function of interviews to expand the cinematic voice.

The panel features: Chase Joynt (Framing Agnes), Sophia Nahli Allison (A Love Song For Latasha), Esery Mondesir (Una Sola Sangre), and Elan and Jonathan Bogarín (306 Hollywood), moderated by Sonia Kennebeck (National Bird).

Video is ASL interpreted and closed-captioned.
